Different types of prosthesis

There are multiple types of fixed dentures that we provide from our comfortable, modern clinic. These include bridges, crowns, implants, and hybrid prostheses. Some of the benefits of fixed dentures compared with removables, include the provision of greater grip and comfort, along with the added convenience of not having to regularly take them out for cleaning. Fixed prostheses have a greater level of firmness compared with removable.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge will consist of a line of dental crowns and can either be placed onto implants or existing teeth in the mouth.

A dental bridge is one option of replacing missing teeth. It consists of crowns that are placed on existing teeth or implants that are connected to a fake tooth, or pontic, that serves as a replacement for the missing tooth/teeth.

A bridge is permanently attached in place and may be made from a variety of materials. Most commonly, porcelain or zirconia is and is matched to the shade of your existing natural teeth.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is made from titanium and is placed into the bone to mimic the root of a tooth. After healing of the implant, an abutment and crown is placed to restore the function and aesthetics of a tooth. Getting a dental implant requires several key stages to be performed, and having good oral hygiene is a must. Dental implants look akin to natural teeth, and they are a long-term solution for those looking to replace lost or damaged teeth.

Hybrid Prostheses

This type of prosthesis is designed to attach to implants and replace all of the upper or lower teeth. The implants help to maintain a firm position and provide stability.

They provide a natural appearance and are designed to lessen the pressures felt when chewing food. Hybrid prostheses are also relatively easy to clean and maintain.

Fixed Prosthesis

This is a permanent solution that can be used to replace a number of teeth or a single tooth.

They can include inlays, bridges, veneers, and crowns; whichever type of fixed prosthesis you choose, you are essentially replacing or restoring the teeth by using an artificial substitute that cannot be removed from your mouth.

Removable Prosthesis

Removable prosthesis restores function and aesthetics for patients missing all or some teeth.

These prostheses can include full or partial dentures; a prosthesis will always be custom-made for the patient by our dental lab in Tulsa.

As the name indicates, removable prostheses can be taken out by the patient for regular cleaning

If you are considering fixed or removable prostheses, please talk to Dr. Roulston about your options on your next visit or call our team to book a consultation.
